Principal - Ms. Alicia Smith
"The principal is the rudder of the ship, steering, providing direction, leadership, guidance. The principal needs to allow people to be creative and grow." – Baruti K. Kafele
Welcome to the school year at the Nathan Hale Primary. I am excited to be the Principal.
Nathan Hale has grown tremendously over the last year and I am eager to make sure we continue to move forward. This year we will continue to provide a positive safe learning environment that motivates our students to push themselves to their greatest potential. I plan to work with parents, teachers, and community members to ensure that we intellectually challenge our students to become critical thinkers, inspire them to push past their fears, and teach them to support one another so that they can become leaders of their generation. It will be a great year!
Please feel free to contact me. I am open to hearing from you so that we make sure we are doing what’s best for our students.
Assistant Principal’s Message
"When educating the minds of our youth, we must not forget to educate their hearts."
My name is Kelly Rojas and I am honored to have joined the District 130 family serving as your new assistant principal at NHP. While our first year together is quite different with remote learning, I am pleased that our close relationships with staff, students, and families continue to grow during this challenging time. I am grateful for everyone’s communication, patience, and positive attitudes- further growing our partnership.
It is our desire that all who enter our doors experience a positive school climate, a safe learning environment, and more trusting and respectful relationships. Our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (P.B.I.S.) program will allow our youngest Eagles to earn their wings, as they learn the skills they need to be “respectful, responsible, kind, and safe”. With PBIS, students learn about appropriate behavior just as they learn about Math or Reading. The long-term goal is to help students develop their interpersonal, social problem solving, conflict prevention and resolution, and emotional coping skills.
We will accomplish our mission by providing a safe and supportive learning environment where students will practice school-wide expectations with teachers and staff serving as positive role models. Having a school-wide behavioral approach incorporates everyone. By coming together and committing to play an active role in the PBIS partnership at NHP, we have the power to best support and contribute to the success of our students and our school.
I am so glad that WE are part of our school for the 2020-2021 school year! Wearing a mask covers our smiles but does not eliminate them! Together we can do anything- let’s make it happen!
